FG-4

FG-4 3-Axis Fluxgate Magnetometer Sensor

The FG-4 is a compact 3-axis fluxgate magnetometer designed for precise measurement of magnetic fields along all three spatial axes (X, Y, and Z).

The sensor measures the complete magnetic field vector, enabling accurate detection of magnetic anomalies and orientation changes in three-dimensional space. This makes it suitable for geophysical surveys, scientific instrumentation, UAV systems, and industrial monitoring.

FG-4 is designed as an OEM sensor module and features a compact, waterproof enclosure for integration into portable or permanently installed systems.

Key Features

  • True 3-axis magnetic field measurement
  • High sensitivity for detecting small magnetic variations
  • Frequency output proportional to magnetic field
  • Compact and lightweight design
  • Waterproof enclosure for outdoor and industrial environments
  • Suitable for embedded and mobile systems

Measurement Principle

The FG-4 uses fluxgate magnetometer technology to measure magnetic fields.

Unlike single-axis sensors, the FG-4 measures the magnetic field simultaneously along three orthogonal axes:

  • X axis
  • Y axis
  • Z axis

This allows the system to calculate the full magnetic field vector:

|B| = √(Bx² + By² + Bz²)

Vector measurements provide more complete information about magnetic anomalies and field orientation.

Electrical Specifications

These specifications allow the sensor to detect very small variations in the Earth's magnetic field.

Output Signal

The FG-4 outputs frequency signals proportional to the magnetic field measured along each axis.

Each axis provides an independent signal:

  • FX → magnetic field along X
  • FY → magnetic field along Y
  • FZ → magnetic field along Z

Advantages of frequency-based output:

  • high noise immunity
  • reliable signal transmission
  • easy integration with microcontrollers
  • long cable compatibility

Typical Applications

Geophysical Surveys

  • magnetic anomaly detection
  • underground structure detection
  • geological mapping

Scientific Research

  • geomagnetic field studies
  • space weather monitoring
  • aurora detection systems
  • vehicle orientation measurement
  • robotics and autonomous systems
  • navigation systems

Industrial Monitoring

  • magnetic field monitoring
  • environmental measurements
  • infrastructure inspection

The sensor is also suitable for UAV magnetometer systems and drone-based surveys, where lightweight and compact sensors are required.

Integration

The FG-4 sensor can be integrated with:

  • microcontrollers and embedded systems
  • magnetometer data loggers
  • UAV magnetometer systems
  • custom geophysical instruments
  • magnetic monitoring stations

Because each axis provides a separate output signal, the host system can calculate both vector magnetic field values and gradients.
